2. “Selling Out”

you said i wouldn’t feel a thing

you told me all the joy it’d bring

you insisted--just try one bite

and you promised it would set us right

but now i’m selling out

and pledging all to doubt

but i’m too blind to see

that all i’d ever need

was always here

was always free

so i took a harmless taste

the mountains shook at every base

but before desire even touched my lips

the Gardner planted for sin’s eclipse

cause now i’m selling out

i missed what it's about

cause all i’ll ever be

is hardly what you need

or what you meant for me to be

my heart tried to have it all

placed all my chips on the wrong number

the noiseless thunder of my secrets

has cast and kept me in this deaf slumber
